Description Collecting and burning pests and spreading their ashes is a common, effective practice in biodynamic agriculture to help balance pest infestations. We will be making remedies from the varroa mite, small hive beetle, ticks, and the spotted lantern fly. The method of pest ashing (sometimes referred to as “peppering”) originates in the Agriculture lectures given by Rudolf Steiner in June of 1924. Steiner presents this method as an effective process for reducing pests that are proliferating beyond the manageable threshold on the farm and in the garden by working with planetary rhythms and cosmic influences.
